Roots of Empathy at St. Joseph's-Alexander McKay Elementary School Grade 2
In Nova Scotia, Tiny Teacher Tyrus helps children develop emotional literacy around the “Green Blanket” at St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary, as part of the Roots of Empathy program.
Great thanks to the Grade 2 class, Tyrus’s mom Jalana, Tiny Teacher Tyrus, and ROE Instructor Patricia for sharing their class on November 10th, and demonstrating the value of empowering children to love themselves and realize that our differences may define us but our similarities connect us.

I have a lot of respect for Prof. Gopnik and I love this metaphor of hers, also used as her book's name, on parenting: gardener vs carpenter. However, as a researcher myself on child bilingualism, I have come to learn that people/parents have ideology, have 'baggage' - things that we believe partly due to our own past experiences, partly due to social influences, things that we see significance for our children's future, and therefore we want to pass down to them. Prof. Gopnik may see it as we want to control our children or shape them, but simply we want the very best for them, and therefore we want them to develop skills or knowledge in this or that particular area. Hence, I think this is highly debatable as to which is the 'best' parenting. As long as we love our children and we do our very best to care for them, it's all good, whether we are gardening or carpentering, or a bit of both.

Thank you for this video. I remember lessons of Personality Psychology at university. I'm not sure. But, I think, it was William James personality consept. That Personality includes your relatives, your car, your city, all you possesions. Just these days I was thinking that we miss in contemporar consepts of self these parts. Of course, we include all this in the inviromental, cultural aspects of personality. But there are not discussions about all of that being a part of our inner reality. These are just 'external' factors of the psychics in contemporar culture. But, in fact, they are a bit more then just external predicates of the personality. In deed. Thank you, Dr. Dan. 🥰

The major error, No mom/no me. No safety, no joy. No attachment rattled the wiring, and attachment order. People have failed, their children, with latch key (no one at home) concepts, abandonment and lack of modeling no mirroring and no god, no love, no mom, creates disorganized attachment and a very mentally, and biologically, disorganized life !!!! No mom/no me.

A deep understanding of attachment theory has made all the difference to me in understanding how early trauma impacted my development and cascaded through my life. At least now I can stop blaming myself for my struggles. Trauma beginning in the crib made it impossible for me to fully develop security in self or safety in the world. I know I'm not alone with any of this.

I cannot even pump gas without a screen talking at me. It feels unavoidable unless I am alone in the woods; everyone is on a device when I am out in a public space 😕 I don’t like it at all.
